For some background on the Adopt a Marine program:  My uncle Brian & aunt Sarah live in Tampa Bay Fl area and they have a best friend, Matt who lived in the neighbohood and was a classmate & member of the High School Marine Jr R O T C program. Matt always wanted to be a Marine and enlisted when he finished High School.
When Matt was 1st deployed to Afghanistan my grandfather, Earl, sent him items that he requested & stuff to share with his mates.  When Matt was next deployed to Iraq, Grandpa asked my father, Marcel, to also ship packages to Matt & now another friend of theirs, Ben, that had joined the Marines and was also being deployed with Matt.  This became the inspiration for our Adopt a Marine program that has been very successful in getting people involved with direct support of the Marines deployed to Iraq & Afghanistan.. My father & I started and promote the program by painting my race cars with the “Adopt a Marine” Icon, with the RyanRust Fan Club.com website,  putting out signs wherever we travel, and by advertizing the adopt a Marine program wherever we can find a place. People such as yourselves also spread the word when you see how easy & satisfying it is to get involved.
As you can see, this was never intended to be a comment for or against the war(s)  It was intended to support the neighborhood young men & women that chose, for whatever reasons, and there are many, to enlist in the Military. Matt & Ben have since returned home & completed their 4 year enlistments.  However, the response from people like yourself and the appreciation of the troops, requires us to continue the Adopt a Marine program.   We, the American people, the family members, friends & neighbors, do support the troops.    -   Ryan Rust
